Well if you have ever made coffee then you’ll know, there’s always cleaning up to do afterwards! In my student days I worked in a bar where they had one of those beautiful, chrome espresso machines. It was shiny and gorgeous to look at and it made excellent coffee but it was a real pain to clean. Those grounds get everywhere!

Which is why innovation number one on my list is pod coffee makers. This innovation takes its inspiration from its rival, tea and the teabag. With coffee pods you can just pop a pod into the machine and then discard it once it has made the coffee- no muss no fuss!

Another summer job I had as a student was in an office. They had one of those standard coffee and hotplate machines. I used to love the smell of the freshly-made coffee in the morning, but once the coffee had been sitting around for a while, it was always the same -bitter coffee that had been hanging around way too long. And it always seemed like such a shame, that either coffee had to be thrown away or that people put up with over-brewed, bitter coffee.

Which is why I love the idea of the one cup coffee maker! Gorgeous, fresh coffee every time with no need to waste or put up with old, boiled coffee.

I love the change of the seasons, the smell of Fall and the feelings of possibility that Spring brings. I must admit that although I really enjoy Winter activities and the family stuff, getting out of bed in the morning can be really difficult! I live in the northern hemishere so it’s dark, it’s cold and bed seems like the best place to be!

So enter the programmable coffee maker! This little worker will get up before you in the morning and start to fill your home (or your bedroom, how much do you hate getting ou of bed??) with delicious aromas that will start to gently wake your brain up and get you used to the idea of braving the cold, dark world beyond your duvet. Being tempted out of bed with coffee is a great innovation so it makes my list.

The Best Coffee Maker For You

The best coffee maker need not be expensive! Work out which features you need in an automatic coffee brewer and then shop around. You will probably find several coffee machines in a wide price range, from modestly priced brands to luxury brands. To ensure that you spend your money wisely, first work out the features that fit your requirements best.

Coffee Brewing Size

How much coffee do you actually drink in a normal day? And how many people in your house are coffee drinkers? If the machine will only be used once or twice a day then a single-cup coffee maker or two-cup coffee maker is the ideal choice. Reusable permanent filter OR Paper Filter?

Paper coffee filters (white and bleached or unbleached and brown) tend to have the best filtering ability and a lower initial cost. They do not need to be cleaned out. However they take slightly longer to insert than permanent coffee filters and have a continuing effect on the environment. Plus, you can run out of paper coffee filters. Permanent filters are available in multiple types, including nylon, cloth and gold.

Advance Timer

Set brew upto 24 hours in advance. Great for if you need an extra kick to get out of bed in the morning.
